Dear Aunty Mary,
I have been looking at the childhood letters that I wrote to you which you returned to me a few years ago. Such happy memories of all the times I spent weekends with you and Uncle Ken. Mum used to put me on a train in Ramsgate and you would meet me at Folkestone Central (We wouldn’t do that nowadays).
We visited many tearooms for tea and cake to try them out. But really you made much better cakes yourself. In fact all your cooking was fabulous; roast dinners with spotted dick and cold baked beans with salads. Of course those were the St Michael Street days with the incredible view of Tontine Street from your kitchen window. I used to sleep on a camp bed in the bathroom when I stayed. I remember going to the cinema with you to see My Fair Lady and having a Chinese meal afterwards for the first time.

Over the years you have been a wonderful Aunty to all of us in Deal. We have enjoyed your company and your delicious cakes; celebratory cakes for Birthdays and Anniversaries, Christmas cakes, mince pies and Maids of honour and lemon drizzle cakes.
For my 50th birthday you made sugar craft red poppies to go on it which I still have in a display frame at home.
You were my Dad’s little sister and I was so lucky to have you in my life.
Thank you for being a special lady in all our hearts and memories.
With love always
Becky xxx
